(Chino Hills, CA) With the Mt. SAC Men's Golf Team recently reaching a No. 1 ranking in Southern California by Calccgolf.com, the Mounties finished second in the So Cal Preview at Los Serranos Country Club Monday (4/8).

Under the guidance of third-year Mt. SAC Men's Head Coach Greg Osbourne, the Mounties received their first top-ranked post with their best season to date.

Sixteen colleges from three conferences took part in the tournament, which is a preview to the official Southern California Regionals (May 6), which are also at Los Serranos CC.

Orange Empire Conference member Orange Coast College finished first with a 357, while the Mounties shot a 367.  Placing third from the Western States Conference (WSC) was Santa Barbara CC with a 369, followed by College of the Canyons (369), also from the WSC, in fourth. Santa Barbara CC was awarded third due to the tie-breaker rule with a lower sixth-man score.

Leading the way for the Mounties out of a field of 97 golfers with 1-under-par 71's was Julio Ibarra (36-35) and Blake Copeland (33-38) on the 6,698-yard North course.

Ibarra shot one birdie, seven pars and a bogey going out for his 36 and a 2-under-par going in, with two birdies, four pars and a bogey.

Copeland carded a three-under (33) on his first nine holes, as he shot three birdies and six pars. Coming back in to the clubhouse, Copeland only had one slipup with a double bogey on the 14th hole.

The remainder of the five scoring members of the team were also in the 70's – Hanseop Lee, 73 (39-34), Josh Song, 75 (37-38) and Chu-Wen (Felix) Tsui, 77 (35-42). Cameron Smith carded and 80 (38-42).

"We played and had some trouble," Osbourne said. "We still finished second and must defend our home turf Wednesday (4/10) at Industry Hills.

"We are ready to go and look forward to the challenge. We want to prove we are the best in Southern California."

OEC Match #5 is hosted by Mt. SAC on the Babe Zaharias Course at Pacific Palms (Formerly Industry Hills).

In the Orange Empire Conference after four of six matches, Mt. SAC currently stands alone at the top with a 25-5 record. Cypress and OCC are tied for second with 23-7 records.
