Mt. SAC Men’s Golf Place Third in Eagle Golf Classic; Tsui Cards 72 for Second

(San Jacinto, CA) With five of the six Mt. SAC Men's golfers finishing in the 70's, the Mounties placed third in the Eagle Golf Classic at Soboba Springs Country Club Monday (3/8) on a cold and windy day.

Leading the way was Chu-Wen (Felix) Tsui with a 72, which placed him in second out of 78 golfers in the tournament. Tsui, who is averaging 73.6 in three conference matches, finished one stroke behind low medalist Kyoshiro Azumada of Palomar.

The 13-team event featured teams competing from three conferences. With the third-place overall finish, the Mounties were eight strokes behind Cypress (376) who finished first. Mt. SAC (384) finished with the same score as Orange Coast College, but placed second in the conference competition due to a tiebreaker rule.

Cypress and Mt. SAC sit atop the standings in the Orange Empire Conference with 8-2 records. On the day Cypress was 5-0 against other OEC opponents, while the Mounties were second at 4-1.

"Our team is battling through the elements and have come together as a team," Mt. SAC Men's Golf coach Greg Osbourne said. "They work hard and it is showing in our results. I am extremely proud of this team."

Blake Copeland and Hanseop Lee both finished with 77's, while Joshua Song and Julio Ibarra carded 79's.

Mt. SAC's Cameron Smith finished with an 81, which was two strokes better than the OCC No. 6 golfer, which was used for the tiebreaker.

The Mounties will take part in OEC Match #2 on Monday (3/11) at the Tustin Ranch GC, which is hosted by Irvine Valley College.
