(Chino Hills, CA) Sophomore Dylan Stone of the Mt. SAC Men's Golf Team, for the second straight year, has qualified for the CCCAA Southern California Regionals at the Orange Empire Conference season-ending tournament.
The OEC finals were held at Los Serranos Golf Club in Chino Hills on Monday April 30.
Stone, who advances to the So. Cal's with the lowest score in the tournament from a non-qualifying team, shot a 2-over par 148 (72-76) on the par 72 and 74 courses.
Highlighting Stones' morning round, he birdied the last three holes and in the afternoon on the 16-17-18 holes he had an eagle, bogie and a par.
"I've played this course a lot in high school tournaments, so I was familiar with it," said Stone, who went to Diamond Bar High School.
The So Cal Regionals will be held next Monday May 7 at Bakersfield Country Club and will be a 36-hole championship format.
"It feels great to represent Mt. SAC and I hope to keep it going," Stone added. "I'm just going to try and play my game and I'm glad I could do it again (in the So Cal's)."
Stone will be attending Cal State Fullerton in the fall and hopes to walk on the golf team.
If he red shirts in his first season at CSUF Stone may help with the Mountie golf program and assist coach Greg Osbourne.
"Hopefully next year he will assist our program," Osbourne said. "I'm extremely proud of Dylan and what he's done for our college in a two year period."
"He's been a great inspiration here at Mt. SAC."
The top-four qualifying teams out of nine entered will advance, along with 12 individuals not on So Cal teams, to the CCCAA State Championships on May 14 at the Sandpiper Golf Club in Goleta.
Mt. SAC finished the season tied with Riverside City College for third place with 23 victories each. RCC advanced due to a conference tie-breaker.
Also advancing was OEC champion Orange Coast and second-place Cypress College.
As a team the Mounties were in third place with a 381 after the morning round on the par-72 north course (6,698 yards) in the conference championships by three strokes over RCC (384).
However, in the afternoon round on the par-74 south course (7,188 yards), the Mounties were six shots behind RCC thus creating a tie in wins for the season.
Other individual scores for the two rounds by the Mounties were: Cole Albert, 154 (73-81); David Gillette, 157 (77-80); Tyler Poepping, 161 (81-80); James Johnson, 162 (79-83) and Curtis Ashton, 164 (80-84).
