Walnut, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Men's Basketball Team came out on top at the Gene Victor Memorial Classic, hosted at the Mt. San Antonio College Gymnasium on November 6 and 8! With dominant wins over Grossmont and Glendale, the Mounties powered their way to the tournament championship title, bouncing back strong after a tough season-opening loss to Citrus College. The Mounties now sit at 2–1 to start the season.

Game 1: Mt. SAC Blows Out Grossmont, 88–36

It was a complete blowout from start to finish as the Mounties struck first and never looked back!

Coming off the bench, Alejandro Munoz was unstoppable, posting a monster double-double with 18 points, 13 rebounds, an assist, and a block — a true all-around performance. Dayvon Gates wasn't far behind with 17 points, while Ethan Nelson and Osami Maciel each added 10, helping the Mounties run away with it and leave Grossmont with no hope of catching up.

The stats tell the story: Mt. SAC shot an impressive 51.5% from the field, 42.1% from beyond the arc, and 60% from the free-throw line, while stacking up 52 rebounds, 19 assists, and 2 blocks.

Grossmont struggled to keep pace, shooting just 23.1% from the field and 14.3% from three, finishing with 28 rebounds and 10 assists.

GAME 2: Mounties Power Past Glendale, 76–54

Glendale put up more of a fight, but the Mounties stayed in control the entire way. The Vaqueros' Omree Bentov led all scorers with 24 points and Brandon Blair added 15, but the rest of Glendale's lineup couldn't get much going — no one else scored more than four points.

Meanwhile, Mt. SAC showed off its depth once again with a balanced team effort. Omari Abdallah led the Mounties with 14 points, Jeremy Williams followed with 13, and Ryan Wheeler added 12 points while grabbing a team-high 7 rebounds.

The Mounties once again outperformed their opponents across the board, shooting 50% from the field, 35.7% from three, and a strong 80% from the free-throw line. They also pulled down 39 rebounds, dished out 7 assists, and added 3 blocks. Glendale shot 34% overall, with just 25 rebounds and 5 assists, proving once again that the Mounties were the team to beat.

SPECIAL RECOGNITION:

No surprise here — Alejandro Munoz was named the Gene Victor Memorial Classic MVP after his incredible performance throughout the tournament! Coming off the bench, Munoz made a huge impact, dominating both ends of the court. His performance set the tone for the Mounties' championship run as he proved to be one of the key forces behind Mt. SAC's early-season success.

NEXT UP:

The Mounties look to keep the momentum rolling at the Skip Robinson Tournament at Pasadena City College on November 14–15. They'll face Antelope Valley on Friday at 2:00 p.m. and Cypress on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
