PCC sends Mt. SAC Men’s Basketball to fourth consecutive loss, 75-58

(Walnut, CA) A big second half by host Pasadena City College led to a 75-58 win over the Mt. SAC Men's Basketball team on Friday (January 20) in a South Coast Conference North game.

The loss was the fourth in a row and fifth out of the last six games, as the Mounties fell to 9-12 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

The Mounties were led by a pair of players with 15 points each – Jay Milner (2-6 3 PM-A, 5-5 FTM-A, 6 Reb) and Nick Hopkins (6-12 FGM-A, 3-3 FTM-A, 8 Reb, 2 Stls.).

Arturo Angeles (1-4 3 PM-A, 1 A, 1 Stl.) and Dante Victor (5-5 FTM-A, 5 Reb, 1 A) added nine and eight points, respectively.

Mt. SAC trailed, 35-30, at the half, but the Lancers outscored the Mounties, 40-28, in the second half to win going away.

In the first half, Hopkins scored 11 of his 15 points on 4 of 7 shooting from the field and a perfect 3 for 3 at the free throw line.

Millner gave the Mounties a two-point, 21-19 lead on a layup with 7:48 remaining in the opening half, but the Lancers finished off the final 12 minutes with a 16-9 scoring run and the five-point halftime lead.

Again, in the second half, the Mounties came within a basket of the No. 18 Lancers on consecutive free throws by LJ McClain (6 Reb) and Hopkins to trail, 42-40, at the 13:47 mark.

However, PCC went on a big run (23-2) that set the Mounties back, 65-42, with six minutes left in the game.

A new beginning begins for the Mounties program this Wednesday (January 25), as they debut their new basketball gymnasium against Rio Hondo. The game time is 7:00 pm.
