East L.A. cruises to SCC North win over Mt. SAC Men's Basketball

(Walnut, CA) Mt. San Antonio College opened its South Coast Conference North Division schedule by hosting the state's sixth-ranked team, East Los Angeles College, on Wednesday, Jan. 18. The Huskies (16-3, 1-0) came away with a decisive 93-61 victory.

Nick Hopkins led the Mounties (9-11, 0-1) in scoring with 21 points as teammates Jay Milner and Mikah Gardner added 11 each. Hopkins also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.

East L.A.'s Demetrius Calip led all players with 24 points.

In addition to the scoreboard, the Huskies outplayed Mt. SAC in almost all team categories, most notably in bench scoring (66-8) and points in the paint (46-24).

The Mounties continue SCC North play on Friday, Jan. 20, at Pasadena City College (15-6, 1-0) at 7 p.m. The Lancers are ranked No. 18 in the most recent California Community College Men's Basketball Coaches Association poll and have won nine straight.
