Mounties defeat L.A. Harbor, 82-77, in SCC Crossover game; Bender scores season-high 28 points

(Walnut, CA) Led by a season-high 28 points by Mt. SAC freshman guard Shaquil Bender, the Mt. SAC Men's Basketball team defeated visiting L.A. Harbor, 82-77, in a South Coast Conference crossover game Friday (Jan. 14).

Bender, who is averaging 19.6 points and leading the SCC North, had a big second half with 20 points.

The Mounties (11-4), ranked 27th in the state, have won six of the last seven games, including four in a row. They will now begin SCC action, starting next week as they host Pasadena City College, Wednesday (Jan. 19).

Bender was 9-18 from the field with two 3-pointers, was 8-11 at the charity stripe and had two steals and a block in the game.

Also, with a season-high 18 points, was freshman guard Justyn Hunter (5-11 FGM-A, 2-4 3PM-A, 6-6 FTM-A, 7 RB, 2 Blks). Two other Mountie starters were also in double figures in scoring – Jamal Edmonson (4-8 FGM-A, 5-6 FTM-A, 6 RB, 2 Blks, 1 Stl, 13 pts.) and Lowrance McClain (3-8 FGM-A, 4-6 FTM-A, 4 RB).

Bender, Hunter and Edmonson all had eight points in the first half, as the Mounties held a 35-29 lead at the break.

With Bender's big second half and 10 of 18 points from Hunter added to the Mt. SAC win.
