Dunnell's 27 not enough to keep Chaffey from SCC North win

(Walnut, CA) Mt. SAC's Cyree Dunnell had another high-scoring outing with 27 points against Chaffey (18-7, 5-2) on Wednesday, but the visiting Panthers came away with an 83-69 South Coast Conference North Division win anyway.

The Mounties (11-13, 3-4) started the game on a 10-4 run but Chaffey responded with a 20-3 spurt of its own to open the lead to 24-13 midway through the first half. Mt. SAC tied the game at 27 with 7:21 to play before halftime, only to see the Panthers respond with a 19-9 roll to take a 10-point lead, 46-36, into the intermission.

Chaffey opened its lead to as many 22 points in the second half and coasted to the win from there.

Dunnell also grabbed six rebounds while connecting on 13 of 14 shots from the free throw line for Mt. SAC. Teammate Daniel DeJoya added 11 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists. Israel Mansker also had six rebounds for the Mounties and a blocked shot.

Manu Oulai led Chaffey with 22 points and 16 rebounds.

Mt. SAC will host East Los Angeles (21-4, 6-1) in an SCC North Division contest on Friday, Feb. 15, at 5 p.m. The Huskies are ranked No. 4 in the state according to the latest California Community College Men's Basketball Coaches Association poll.
