MEN'S BASKETBALL DOWNS CONFERENCE RIVAL LA TRADE TECH, 84-75

(Walnut, CA) In one of the highest-scoring individual performances by a Mt. SAC player in years, sophomore guard Cyree Dunnell exploded for 43 points to lead the Mounties to a, 84-75, victory over visiting L.A. Trade Tech on Friday (2/8).

The South Coast Conference (SCC) North win evened the Mounties conference record at 3-3 (11-12 overall).

The big win puts Mt. SAC into a three-way tie for third in the SCC North with No. 16 ranked (CCCAA State Poll) L.A. Trade Tech and Pasadena City College with four games remaining.

In the last two games, Dunnell scored 77 points for the Mounties.  He is the only player for the Mounties to score over 40 points in single game since the 2013-14 season.

Dunnell was near perfect from the field, sinking eight of nine baskets for 22 points in the opening half and going 5 of 7 from the charity stripe. In the second half he added 21 points and was a perfect five for five from the field, which included a 3-pointer.  He was also 10 of 11 from the free throw line and grabbed seven rebounds.

With 1:56 left in the first half and the score was tied 31-31, the Mounties went on an blazing 9-2 run. Highlighting the run was a 3-pointer by guard Joseph Gonzalez (4-9 FGM, 4-9 3PM, 1 Stl., 12 Pts.) and a layup along with two free throws by Dunnell.

With 2:14 left in the game, the Mounties stretched the lead to a comfortable nine points (74-65) and then played the Beavers even the rest of the way for the nine-point victory.

Akinola Branco (5-6 FTM, 5 RB), Daniel DeJoya (2-4 FGM, 1-2 3PM, 2-3 FTM, 4 RB, 2 Assts., 1 Stl.) and Shallamar Poole (3-5 FGM, 1-2 FTM, 3 RB, 3 Assts., 1 Blk.) all scored seven points a piece.

Mt. SAC continues SCC North action at home, on Wednesday (2/13), where they will take on Chaffey College at 5:00 pm.
