Mounties Fall to LBCC, 74-58 in Nonconference Action; DeJoya Leads Mt. SAC with 21 points

(Long Beach, CA) Mt. SAC sophomore guard Daniel DeJoya had his second highest scoring output of the season with 21 points, but the Mounties fell to host Long Beach City College Friday evening in a nonconference game.

DeJoya, who opened the season with a 29-point performance, shot 68.7% (11 for 16) at the free throw line for the Mounties against Long Beach CC.

Freshman guard Gabe Ontiveros (6-8 FTM, 3 RB, 1 Asst.) was the only other Mountie in double figures in the game with 10 points. Akinola Branco (3-7 FGM, 2-2 3PM, 4 RB) added nine points for Mt. SAC.

The Mounties (5-6) started the game with a 7-0 run, but the Vikings came back and tied the game at 12-12 midway through the first half.

The Vikings (10-2) opened up the game from there, as they outscored the Mounties, 36-11 to take a 48-23 halftime lead.

DeJoya led the Mounties with 13 first-half points.

Long Beach maintained its 20-point plus-lead throughout most of the second half for the win.

The Mounties conclude their nonconference schedule with one last game in the 2018 calendar year on New Year's Eve afternoon with a road game at Cerro Coso (Ridgecrest). Game time is 2:00 p.m.
