Mt. SAC Men’s Basketball Fall to Antelope Valley, 77-61 in Compton College Tartar Classic Opener

(Compton, CA) In the last tournament of the 2017 calendar year, the Mt. SAC Men's Basketball Team lost 77-61 to Antelope Valley College in the opening game of the Annual Compton College Tartar Classic Monday.

Three Mounties scored in double figures with guard Bryce Knox (3 Assists, Steal) leading the way with 14 points.

Guards Corey Grant (3 rebounds, 4 Assist) and Evan Council (4-5 FT, 3 rebounds) each had 10 points for Mt. SAC, while Marc Howard Jr. and Nicholas Williams (3-3 FG, 2-3 FT, 5 rebounds) contributed eight points apiece.

Mt. SAC's forward Minfeke Sanoe led the team with eight rebounds.

As a team, the Mounties (5-9) had 29 rebounds, 27 points in the paint and 22 points from the bench.

After the Marauders built up a 13-6 lead with 13:53 left in the first half, the Mounties went on an 8-1 run to tie the game at 14-14 two minutes later.

The run led by a 3-pointer by Knox and a conventional 3-point play (jump shot, FT) by Howard, Jr.

Mt. SAC had a 20-16 lead after a 3-pointer by Howard, Jr. with 8:18 left in the half.

Antelope Valley ended the first half on a 16-6 run for the 32-26 advantage.

Williams and Knox each had eight points to lead the Mounties in the second half and Council added six.

The Mounties will continue action tomorrow noon.
