Mountie Men Defeat ELAC, 81-67, in South Coast Conference Opener

(Monterey Park, Ca) The Mt. SAC Men's Basketball team, with four players in double figures, defeated the host East Los Angeles Huskies, 81-67, in the opening game of the South Coast Conference North Wednesday night.

Sophomores AJ McLaurin and Nick Brown (4-6 FG, 2-4 3PM, 3-4 FT) led the Mounties with 13 points apiece, while sophomores Damarcus Carter (5-6 FG, 2 assists, steal, blk) and Isaiah Watson (3-6 FG, 4-4 FT) added 12 and 11 points respectively.

After a close first half in which the Mounties (11-7, 1-0) held a two-point advantage, 36-34, they extended the lead to 17 early in the second half.

However, the Huskies wouldn't go away as they crawled to within seven points, but the Mounties pulled away by doubling the lead for the 14-point victory.

Defensively, the Mounties out-rebounded the Huskies, 30-27, as McLaurin and Carter had five each.

At the free throw line the Mounties were 18 of 22 for 89%, while dishing out 20 assists.
