Mounties come up short against El Camino to open conference play

(Torrance, CA) In both teams' first National Central Conference game of the season, host El Camino (4-2, 1-0) held on to defeat Mt. SAC (3-1, 0-1) by the score of 30-24 on Saturday.

The Mounties scored first on a 24-yard field goal by Noah Carlton at the 7:00 mark of the first quarter. The Warriors responded with a 40-yard field goal of their own with 4:40 to play in the first. Both teams scored the bulk of their points in the second quarter with the hosts taking a 24-17 lead into the break.

El Camino took a 30-17 lead at the 5:13 mark of the third and Mt. SAC cut the lead to 30-24 with 1:57 to play in the game, but that was how the game ended.

Alex Flores threw for 316 yards on 29-of-45 passing for the Mounties, tossing two touchdowns and three interceptions. Shemar Savage led the team in receiving yards with 91 on five catches, while teammate Jordan Erby had a team-high eight receptions for 88 yards and one touchdown. Reginald Anderson (five receptions, 48 yards) also had a touchdown catch.

On the ground, Mt. SAC's Keoua Kauni ran for 45 yards on 10 carries and one touchdown.

Defensive lineman Tupu Alualu and defensive back Dedric Luton led the Mountie defense with nine and eight tackles, respectively, as defensive lineman Inoke Katoa had two sacks.

Mt. SAC will host Riverside (4-2, 1-0) in an NCC game on Saturday, Oct. 23, at 6 p.m.
