(Norwalk, CA) The offensive explosion continues for the Mt. SAC Football Team, as they remained undefeated in National Conference Central League action, with a 42-24 victory over host Cerritos College Saturday (Nov. 2) at Falcon Stadium.
The win improves Mt. SAC, ranked ninth in the Junior College Athletic Bureau Coaches Poll (Oct. 29), to 6-2 overall and 3-0 in conference.
From the first possession to the last play of the game, it was all Mt. SAC with nearly 500 yards (496) of total offense. It was a perfect balance of passing (248 yds.) and rushing (248 yds.), with running back Rachaad White (142 yds.) and wide receiver Sean Bowden (117 yds.) scoring two touchdowns each.
White, who has six 100 yards or more rushing games, scored on runs of 16 and 39 yards, while Bowden hauled in TD receptions of 14 and 51 yards.
Bowden started the scoring with a 14-yard TD reception from quarterback Zach Rangel (17 for 22, 2 TD's, Int.), to lead 7-0 with just 3:14 gone in the first quarter.
By early in the third quarter, the Mounties had built up a 30-3 lead.
Cerritos (4-4, 1-2) scored its first touchdown late in the third quarter, to trail 30-10.
Each team traded a pair of TD's in the fourth quarter, with Mt. SAC running back Dominique Redden (10 carries, 18 yds.) scoring on a 6-yard run, building up a 36-10 lead.
Running back Malaki Thompson added 93 yards rushing on 11 carries for the Mounties in the game, while kicker Gabriel Dunkle added a 32-yard field goal.
To complete the scoring, Mt. SAC defensive back Levon Barnett stepped in front of a Cerritos pass and raced 96 yards on the last play of the game for the 42-24 final.
Leading the way defensively for the Mounties was defensive back Colin Keanu, with six solo tackles and three assists, while defensive back Jontavis Walker had four tackles and eight assists.
Defensive lineman Michael Irenze had a sack for a minus seven yards.
Mt. SAC returns home (Covina District Field) next Saturday (Nov. 9) to play San Diego Mesa.
