(Covina, CA) A late field goal by Chaffey College knocked the Mt. SAC Football Team from the ranks of the unbeaten, 24-22, Saturday night at Covina District Field.

A long fourth-quarter drive, culminating with a two-yard run by quarterback Zach Rangel gave Mt. SAC a go-ahead, 22-21, lead with 6:18 left, but the Panthers (3-0) handed the Mounties their first loss of the season with a 39-yard field goal with 3:38 remaining in the game.

The Mounties (2-1) were led by Rangel (24 for 39, 3 Int.) with a game-high 294 yards passing and a touchdown, while receiver Sean Bowden caught five passes for 92 yards. Mountie receivers Dakota Warfield (6 catches, TD) and Jonathan Schofield (6 catches) also added 81 and 68 yards, respectively.

On the ground, running back Rachaad White led the Mounties with 56 yards on 13 carries.

Mt. SAC Kicker Andrew Rodriquez was a perfect 2 for 2 in field goals, with the longest a 49 yarder.

The Mounties jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the first quarter on a 15-yard TD pass to Warfield, a blocked punt by defensive back Levon Barnett for a safety and the 49-yard field goal.

Chaffey reversed the fortunes with 15 consecutive second-quarter points of its own with two TD's and a field goal for a late 15-12 lead.  The lead would not last long as the Mounties put together a 9-play, 84-yard drive, that culminated with a short 21-yard field goal to tie things up, 15-15 to end the half.

The second of four Chaffey field goals by kicker Nick Lawson came late in the third quarter for the 18-15 lead.

Lawson added two more field goals (21, 39 yds.) in the fourth quarter to down the Mounties.

Mt. SAC travels to East L.A. College next Saturday (Sept. 28) for a 6:00 pm game.
