Mt. SAC Football Defeats Saddleback 45-7

Mt. SAC Football vs Saddleback at Mission Viejo High School

(Mission Viejo, CA) Mt. SAC quarterback Steven Nava put on an aerial display, throwing a season-best five touchdown passes, to lead the Mounties to a, 45-7, victory over host Saddleback College. 

In the Saturday night CCCAA National Division contest, Nava threw for 307 yards, going 20 for 24, with one interception. His target of the night was receiver Zion Echols who had five receptions for 100 yards and two TDs. Echols also carried the ball four times for 29 yards.

Receivers Reginald Anderson (3 receptions, TD) and Chris Jackson (4 receptions) had 64 and 60 yards receiving, respectively for the Mounties.

On the ground, six running backs totaled 162 yards for the Mounties, with Hykeem Massey leading the way with 48 yards, on five carries. Rachaad White carried the ball 10 times for 39 yards.

"The coaches did a great job in game-planning for Saddleback," replied, Mt. SAC Head Coach Bob Jastrab. "Our players were focused and executed almost to perfection."

"The team continues to improve and will enjoy the next weekend off." 

After a bye next week the Mounties will begin National Division Central Conference action against Palomar College on Saturday, October 13th, on the campus of Escondido High School.

The Mounties are averaging 44 points per game in their four wins and scored on seven of their nine possessions.

On the opening possession, Nava led the Mounties on a 8-play, 82-yard touchdown drive, that culminated with a 23-yard TD pass to Echols.

Nava, who is second in the state with 15 TD passes this season, passed for two touchdowns in the first half.  One pass was to Anderson (53 yards) and the other was a four-yard pass to Jacob Hennie (2 catches, 17 yds.).

Running back Malaki Thompson ran for a one-yard score in the second quarter that put the Mounties up 28-0 at the half.

Mt. SAC built up a 42-0 lead on TD pass receptions by Echols (27 yards) and Damian Alloway (29 yards), before Saddleback scored a touchdown late in the third quarter.

Kicker Gabriel Dunkle connected on his fifth field goal of the year, a 24-yarder to close out the scoring and final score at 45-7.
