Monterey Park, Calif. – Pull out those brooms! Mt. SAC wrapped up a clean three-game sweep of East Los Angeles College in dramatic fashion, edging out a 7-6 nail-biter on Saturday, March 28. With the win, the Mounties climb to 14-15 overall and 11-4 in South Coast Conference play, while the Huskies fall to 8-20 and 4-8.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

This game kept fans on the edge of their seats. Back-and-forth scoring, clutch moments, and just enough chaos to keep everyone guessing until the final out.

Andrew Alva came out swinging in the first, launching a two-run bomb to ignite the offense. Frankie Brazil kept things rolling in the second with an RBI single that brought home Luca Lombardi and gave Mt. SAC a 3-0 cushion.

ELAC answered in the third, as Marcus Orizaba knocked in Camden Conklin to cut the lead to 3-1. But the Mounties fired right back in the fourth when Terrell Jackson Jr. lifted a sacrifice fly to score Nick Mejia and make it 4-1.

ELAC exploded in the fourth and fifth innings, tying things up before grabbing a 5-4 lead. Adrian Rodriguez scored on a wild pitch, Jose Guzman and Moses Aguirre delivered RBI singles, and John Gonzalez added another run on a fielder's choice to cap the rally.

Mt. SAC wasn't about to let the sweep slip away. The Mounties answered with grit, taking advantage of a throwing error that allowed Mejia to score before Hudson Karczynski drew a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded, bringing Jackson Jr. home and putting Mt. SAC back on top, 6-5.

Still, the Huskies had one more punch. Conklin came through with a clutch single to tie the game once again.

But the final word belonged to the Mounties. In the decisive moment, Brazil delivered yet again—lining a single to right field that sent Lombardi across the plate for the game-winning run and sealing the sweep.

On the mound, Brenden Menchaca battled through four innings in the start, while Jack Rudometkin and Noah Tanphanich provided relief. Juan Verduzco shut the door when it mattered most, tossing 3.2 stellar innings, allowing just one hit and no runs while striking out three to earn the win.

  • Frankie Brazil: Perfect 4-for-4 day, 2 RBI, double, and a key double play
  • Nick Mejia: 2-for-5, 2 runs scored, plus a double and a triple
