Walnut, Calif. – Well, the bats are waking up and the wins are stacking up.

The Mt. SAC Baseball Team made it four victories in a row Tuesday, powering past Rio Hondo 8-1 after finishing off an LA Harbor sweep in a weekend doubleheader. While the Mounties are still climbing back toward the .500 mark at 7-9 overall, they remain perfect in SCC action at 4-0. Rio Hondo drops to 4-11 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Mounties started off with a bang when Andrew Alva launched a two-run home run in the bottom of the first, bringing home Ryan Castro and igniting the offense with an early 2-0 lead.

Mt. SAC kept the pressure on in the second. Tyler Primanto hit an RBI single, and Castro followed with a powerful triple that helped push the lead to 4-0. The Mounties were aggressive on the bases and relentless at the plate.

In the fourth inning, Nick Mejia added to the cushion with a sacrifice fly to left field, plating Primanto and extending the advantage to 5-0.

Rio Hondo managed to get on the board in the fifth when Diego Helguera singled to bring home Nathan Sena, but that would be the Roadrunners' first and only run of the game.

The Mounties answered immediately in the sixth. Castro delivered again with an RBI single, Luca Lombardi ripped a double, and a perfectly executed double steal — Chip Mertz swiping second while Primanto stole home — capped a three-run inning and stretched the lead to 8-1.

Tomas Bilvado was strong on the mound. The right-hander worked six innings, allowing just one run, issuing no walks and striking out three.

The bullpen trio of Jack Rudometkin, Cash Carroll and Brett Maloof each handled an inning in relief to close it out. As a staff, the Mounties issued just one walk all game — a dominant and disciplined showing on the mound.
