Mt. SAC Baseball defeats Citrus to run win streak to five

(Walnut, CA) Host Mt. San Antonio College (14-17) completed a two-game non-conference series sweep of Citrus College (8-21) with a 19-7 victory on Thursday, April 6. The Mounties also defeated the Owls, 6-4, on Tuesday, April 4, in Glendora.

Trailing 5-1 through three innings on Thursday, Citrus rallied with a pair of runs in both the fourth and fifth to tie the score. Mt. SAC responded with 14 runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a commanding 19-5 lead the Owls were unable to overcome.

Sam Silversmith (2-1) got the win for Mt. SAC, throwing 3.2 innings in relief of starter Michael Flores (3.1 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 5 SO). Silversmith allowed two runs (both earned) and struck out seven.

Top Mountie offensive performances included Joey Rossetti (3-4, 2 R, 3 RBI, 2B), Elijah Pelayo (3-6, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2B, 3B), CJ Ontiveros (2-4, 3 R, SB), Travis Hobbensiefken (2-5, 2 R, 3 RBI, 3B), Blake Hagerty (1-3, 4 R, 3 RBI, 3B, SB), Damien Delgadillo (2-4, R, 3 RBI, 3B), and Andres Mitat (1-1, 4 RBI, 2B).

With a 5-10 conference record, the Mounties resume South Coast Conference play on Tuesday, April 11, at Compton College (11-17, 3-10) at 2:30 p.m. Games 2 of the three-game series will take place on Thursday, April 13, in Walnut at 2:30 p.m. and Game 3 on Saturday, April 15, in Compton at 12 p.m.
