(Walnut, CA) Trailing 2-1 through eight innings, Rio Hondo College (12-9, 6-3) scored two runs in the top of the ninth to earn a 3-2 South Coast Conference victory over host Mt. San Antonio College (8-12, 1-5) on Thursday, March 16.
CJ Ontiveros (2-4, RBI), Joey Rossetti (1-2, RBI), and Joel Quemada (1-3, R) were the top hitters for the Mounties. Quemada and Travis Hobbensiefken (1-4) stole bases in the losing effort.
Trent Merrill (0-4) got the loss, throwing one inning in relief of starter Michael Flores (7 IP,1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 SO).
The teams will face each other again in the second of a three-game series on Friday, March 17, in Whittier at 1:30 p.m. The concluding game of the series will also be in Whittier on Saturday, March 18, at 12 p.m.
