Mounties win third straight with big victory over Orange Coast

(Costa Mesa, CA) Big innings in the second, fourth, and fifth helped lift Mt. SAC (7-6) to a 16-7 win over host Orange Coast College (10-2-1) on Tuesday, May 4.

The Mounties tallied 21 hits on the day behind the hot bats of Sebastian Garcia (4-5, 2 2B, HR, 3 R, 2 RBI), Caleb Ellis (2-3, 2 R), Jason Flores (2-4, 2B, 2 R, 2 RBI), Nick Lugo (2-6, 2 R, 2 RBI), Cole Jordan (2-5, 2B, 2 R, 3 RBI, 2 SB), Fabian Moran (2-4, 2 R), and Manny Casillas (3-5, 2B, 3B, R, 2 RBI). Michael Gutierrez (1-1) had a triple and RBI while teammate Jacob Moreno stole a base in the winning effort.

Gutierrez (5.1 IP, 7 R, 6 ER, 8 K) was also the starting pitcher for Mt. SAC and got the win, improving his record to 2-1 on the season. Matt Mattingly struck out four in 1.2 innings of relief for the Mounties.

Winners of three straight and four of five, Mt. SAC will face the Pirates again in the second of a four-game series on Thursday, May 6, at 2 p.m. at OCC. Game 3 and 4 are scheduled for Friday, May 7, in Walnut. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, no spectators will be allowed.
