Mounties win big against host Santa Ana in non-conference game

(Santa Ana, CA) A nine-run explosion in the third inning was all the Mt. SAC Baseball team needed to down host Santa Ana (6-3) in a 13-4 non-conference win on Tuesday, April 27. The Mounties (4-5) added two in the fourth and one in the fifth to go up 13-0 before the Dons got on the board with a pair of runs in the eighth.

Mt. SAC tallied 18 hits behind top offensive performances by Sebastian Garcia (3-3, 2 2B, 2 R, 4 RBI), Cole Jordan (3-4, 2 2B, 3 R, RBI), Caleb Ellis (3-5, 2B, R, 4 RBI), Jason Flores (2-4, R, RBI), Nick Lugo (2-5, 2 R), and Brent Cota (1-2, 2B, R, RBI).

Starting pitcher Michael Gutierrez (1-1) got the win for the Mounties, throwing six innings, allowing one hit and no runs, while striking out seven.

The teams will face off again on Thursday, April 29, at 2 p.m. at Santa Ana, and in a doubleheader at Mt. SAC on Friday, April 30. The first game of the twin bill will begin at 2 p.m. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, no spectators will be allowed.
