Mt. SAC Baseball falls to Saddleback, 5-3, in home opener

(WALNUT, CA) After an opening-game victory on Tuesday, Mt. SAC dropped the second of four scheduled games with Saddleback College, 5-3, Thursday April 15 at Mazmanian Field in Orange Empire Conference action.

The Mounties managed only four hits in the game. They were tied, 2-2, in the fifth inning, only to surrender three more runs in the last three innings to the Gauchos.

Mt. SAC freshman second baseman Blake Borgogno (1 for 2, RBI, 2 BB) got the Mounties started with a run-scoring single in the second inning, driving in freshman designated hitter Trevor Caton for the 1-0 lead.

Trailing, 2-1, in the bottom of the fifth, Mt. SAC's freshman second baseman Cole Jordan (1 for 2, RBI, Sac fly, SB) hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring freshman centerfielder Art Ruiz (1 for 5, Dbl, R) to tie the game, 2-2.

Saddleback scored twice in the seventh and once in the ninth for the 5-2 lead.

The Mounties pushed across one run in the bottom of the ninth on a ground out by freshman Manny Casillas, after they loaded the bases.

Mt. SAC used seven pitchers in the game, with Damian Torres (0-1) suffering the loss.

Mt. SAC will play the first of a four-game series with Cypress (4-0), beginning Tuesday. Game time is 2:00 pm.
