Mounties earn big SCC win on road over Compton

(Compton, CA) After suffering a 1-0 loss to Compton (4-14, 1-3) on March 5, Mt. SAC (9-10, 3-1) returned the favor with an 8-2 victory over the Tartars in a weather-rescheduled South Coast Conference game at Compton on Friday.

Leading 2-0 through six innings, the Mounties scored three in the top of the seventh and two in the eighth to blow the game open. Compton scored a run in the bottom halves of the seventh and eighth, only to see Mt. SAC add another run in the top of the ninth.

Top offensive performances for the Mounties included Micahel Rosales (2-for-3, RBI, R, SB), Dylan Zavala (2-for-4, 2 R, 2B, 2 SB), Caleb Eills (2-for-4, 2 RBI, R, 2 SB), Albert Luevano (2-for-4, RBI, 3B, SB), Alex Gonzalez (1-for-4, RBI, 2 R, SB), and Michael Sandoval (1-for-4, RBI, R, HR, SB). Christian Heflin (1-for-4) also drove in a run for Mt. SAC.

Starting pitcher Wyatt Regis (2-2) pitched six innings, struck out six, and allowed no runs to earn the win for the Mounties.

Mt. SAC will host Cerritos (2-12, 1-3) in an SCC contest on Saturday, March 9, at 12 p.m.
