Sacramento Hands Mt. SAC a Pair of Setbacks

(Walnut, CA) The first of a three-game, non-conference series between Mt. SAC (6-8) and visiting Sacramento City College (9-3) started on Thursday but had to wait until Friday to finish. Tied 4-4 in the third inning when rain intervened on Thursday, the Panthers went on to win, 10-6, after the game resumed on Friday. Friday's scheduled game took place afterwards and saw Sacramento capture a 9-4 victory.

Leading 7-6 through eight, Sacramento added three runs in the top of the ninth to seal the win.

Michael Sandoval (2-for-4, HR, RBI, R), Omar Veloz (2-for-4, 2 R, 2B), Albert Luevano (2-for-3, R), Derek Zavala (2-for-5, RBI, R), Caleb Eills (2-for-4), Micahel Rosales (1-for-3, RBI), and Jacob Dominguez (1-for-4, 3 RBI, 2B) were the top hitters for the Mounties.

Relief pitcher Tyler Hazlett (0-1) got the loss for Mt. SAC, throwing four innings while striking out five and allowing one run. Starter Jacob Kampen pitched 2.1 innings, struck out two, and allowed six runs, all of them earned.


Sacramento 9 Mt. SAC 4

In the second game, the Panthers struck first in the top of the first with three runs and never trailed for the rest of the game.

Top offensive performances for the Mounties included Dylan Zavala (1-for-3, RBI, R, 3B), Dominguez (1-for-1, 2B), Kyle Koontz (1-for-3, RBI, 2B), and Alex Gonzalez (1-for-3, 2 R).

Starting pitcher Wyatt Regis (1-1) got the loss for Mt. SAC, allowing five runs while striking out two in 3.1 innings. Relievers Isaac Lopez (1.2 IP) and Dylan Needham (1 IP) each had four strikeouts. Tyler Lawson struck out three batters in his two innings of relief for the Mounties.

The third and final matchup between the teams will take place on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 12 p.m.
