Mt. SAC Baseball Wins Fourth Straight; Defeats Cerritos 4-3

(Norwalk, CA) Four wins in a row and seven out of the last eight, highlight the month of March for the Mounties as they defeated Cerritos College 4-3 Thursday afternoon in a South Coast Conference game.

Leading 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth inning and the tying run on second base, freshman relief pitcher Zach Bromstead recorded the final out for his first save of the season to preserve the Mounties win.

Mt. SAC (16-6, 6-1), with one of the hottest eight-game streaks in the state, was led by a pair of three-hit performances by designated hitter Anthony Walters (3-5, R, 2 RBIs, HR) and catcher Chris Sandberg (3-4, 2 R).

Left fielder Quinn Cotter (2-4, RBI) and center fielder Manny Galvan (2-2, Sac) each had a pair of hits, aiding the Mounties in their 14-hit attack.

Steven Ordorica (3-1) relieved starter Wyatt Regis in the fifth inning and pitched into the seventh, allowing a run, a pair of hits and struck out three Falcons batters.

That was followed by a near-perfect appearance by right hander Matt Garcia (4 Ks) as he retired six of the seven batters before allowing a double in the ninth inning.

Trailing 1-0 in the third, the Mounties built a picket fence scoring a run in each of the next four innings.

Walters started the scoring in the third with an RBI single to center field, scoring right fielder Elijah Greene (Dbl.) to tie the game 1-1. Sandberg scored on a wild pitch the next inning for a 2-1 lead, followed by a solo home run by Walters in the fifth.

After Cerritos inched closer to trail 3-2, the Mounties received an insurance run on a single to left field by Cotter, scoring Sandberg for the 4-2 advantage in the sixth inning.

Mt. SAC, which has a one-game lead over Chaffey (5-2) in conference, will host Cerritos on Saturday at noon.
