Mt. SAC Baseball Defeats El Camino 7-3; Climbs into First in the SCC

(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC Baseball Team is off and running in the South Coast Conference with a 7-3 win over El Camino College Thursday at Mazmanian Field.

With the win, the Mounties (13-6, 3-1) sit atop the standings in the SCC North.

Right fielder Elijah Greene (3-4, R) led the Mounties with three more hits, giving him 33 on the season which is sixth in the state. Greene also raised his average to .452 which puts him eighth in the state.

Collecting a pair of hits was designated hitter Dylan Jones (2-4, 2 R, SB), along with two RBIs from catcher Chris Sandberg (1-4, Tpl.), second baseman Elijah Zaragoza (1-3, R) and Ray Mata-Lemos (1-1).

Trailing 3-0 in the fifth inning, Mata-Lemos singled in two runs and Zaragoza scored on an error by the El Camino right fielder to tie the score at 3-3.

Zaragoza then singled in two runs the next inning to give the Mounties a 5-3 lead and Sandberg added two more insurance runs in the seventh with a triple for the 7-3 final.

Mt. SAC will continue conference action with a game at Long Beach City College on Saturday and host LBCC at Mazmanian Field on Tuesday.
