Mt. SAC Baseball Wins in Extra Innings over Ventura

(Walnut, CA) With two runs in the seventh inning to tie the game and a walk-off single in the 11th inning, the Mt. SAC Baseball Team (9-4 overall record) defeated visiting Ventura College, 6-5.

With two outs in the seventh and the Mounties trailing, 5-3, right fielder Elijah Greene (3 for 6, 2 R, 2 RBIs, Dbl., HR) hit a two-run home run, scoring left fielder Quinn Cotter (3-5, 2 R) who singled to open the inning, and tie the game at 5-5.

At the bottom of the 11th, Greene singled and advanced into scoring position (second base) on an error by the Ventura shortstop.  Michael Sandoval (2-5, RBI) ended the nearly three-hour game on a single which scored Greene.

Pitcher Steven Ordorica (2-1) picked up his second consecutive win, in relief, for the Mounties going two innings, allowing a hit and striking out one.

The Mounties, off to their best start in seven years, also received a strong relief appearance by right hander Zach Bromstead, who retired the last 11 batters, strikoing out five batters in four innings of work.

Center fielder Manny Galvan (3-4, R) collected three hits and Dino Miranda tripled and scored.

Next up, Mt. SAC will play home-and-away games with Riverside City College, Friday at Mazmanian Field and Saturday at RCC.  Both nonconference games begin at 5:00 pm.

The Mounties begin South Coast Conference action next week.
