Mt. SAC Baseball Split Twin Bill Against San Diego Mesa; Win 6-2, Lose 7-8

(San Diego, CA) The Mt. SAC Baseball team traveled to San Diego Mesa and split a double header, winning the opening game, 6-2 and losin the second game , 7-8 in seven innings.

Right fielder Elijah Greene led the Mounties at the plate with six hits, in eight at bats, and five RBIs.

In the first game, Mountie pitcher Mason Corneliussen (2-0) picked up his second win of the season in the seven inning, seven-strikeout performance.

Corneliussen allowed two runs, six hits and one walk in the win.

Jake Turner pitched the final two innings giving up two hits and no runs.

Leading the offensive 10-hit charge was right fielder Greene (3-5, R, 2 RBIs) and shortstop Anthony Walters (2-4, 3 R, RBI). Greene banged out a double and a triple in the game, while Dylan Jones and Quinn Cotter each added doubles.

The Mounties took a 2-0 first-inning lead and added two more runs in the fifth and ninth innings.

In the second game, the Mounties led 7-5 in the sixth, but lost the lead in the bottom half of the inning and the eventual, 8-7, win.

Greene had his second three-hit game, while six other Mounties had a hit.

Third baseman Michael Sandoval went 1 for3, with a run and two RBIs.

Walters tripled in Greene for the first of three runs in the first inning and Walters scored on a single by Sandoval.

Second baseman Ryon Knowles (1-3, RBI) picked up the third run on a ground out, scoring Sandoval.

The Mounties added single runs in the second and fifth innings and two more runs in the sixth.

Reliever Charlie Verrone (1-1) suffered the loss for Mt. SAC (4-2 overall record).

The Mounties travel to Cypress on Wednesday for a 2:00 p.m. game.
