Mt. SAC Baseball Inches Above .500 With a 4-2 Win Over L.A. Pierce.

(Walnut, CA) Mt. SAC sophomore Josh Avila pitched six and a third innings, allowing two runs, en route to a 4-2 win over visiting L.A. Pierce College Wednesday afternoon in a nonconference game.

With the victory, the Mounties improved to 3-2 on the season.

Avila, who raised his record to 2-1, struck out eight batters, didn't allow a walk and scattered five hits.

Freshman Jacob Castillo picked up his first save of the season pitching two innings and allowed only one hit.

Freshman first baseman Ruben Castaneda (2 for 4, run) led the Mounties with two hits, including a double.

The Mounties took an early lead with two runs in the first inning on two L.A. Pierce errors.

After the Mounties took a 3-0 lead, with Avila putting up zeros through the first five innings, L.A. Pierce came through with a run to trail in the sixth, 3-1.

Mt. SAC added an insurance run in the bottom half of the inning to lead, 4-1, on an RBI single by sophomore second baseman Erick Morales (1 for 3, BB), scoring Castaneda.

Pierce added a run in the seventh for the final, 4-2 score.
