Mountie Baseball Doubles Up on Victor Valley College, 6-3

(Walnut, CA) Mt. SAC sophomore left fielder Antonio Muniz hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the fifth inning that led to a 6-3 nonconference win over Victor Valley College Saturday afternoon at Mazmanian Field.

Leading the way in the 13-hit attack was Muniz with three hits, two RBIs and a double.

With the victory the Mounties evened their record at 2-2.

Four Mountie batters collected two hits each and freshman Christian Longoria picked up his first college win

The right hander went six innings, scattered five hits and allowed three earned runs.

Freshman reliever Mason Corneliussen (2 Ks), making his second appearance of the season, pitched the final three innings for his first save and allowed only one hit.

The Mounties scored solo runs in the first three innings to take a 3-2 lead.

After Victor Valley tied the game at 3-3 in the fourth, Muniz hit his first round-tripper of the season for the 5-3 lead.

Freshman first baseman Jacob Castillo (2 for 5, run, SB) added an insurance run for the Mounties in the bottom half of the eighth. His single scored sophomore second baseman Erick Morales (2 for 3) for the 6-3 lead.

Freshman third baseman Conner Shepherd (2 for 4, RBI, SB) and freshman center fielder Jeff Pellegrino (2 for 4) each had two hits for the Mounties.
