Mounties win big in last home game, 26-6, over El Camino-Compton Center

(Walnut, CA) – By John M. Sherrard – The Mt. SAC baseball team has turned on the offense in the last two weeks of the season, scoring 55 runs, and have won five out of the last six games, including a 26-6 romp over visiting El Camino-Compton Center Thursday night at Mazmanian Field in a South Coast Conference game.

The Mounties, who amassed a season-high 32 hits, were led by four players with four hits each: sophomore catcher Johnny Juarez IV (Glendora HS), 4 for 6, 3 runs scored, 6 RBIs, double, home run; sophomore first baseman Kory Brown (Charter Oak HS), 4 for 6, 3 runs, 2 RBIs, 2 doubles; sophomore DH Spencer Sundahl (East Lake HS, Chula Vista), 4 for 4, 4 runs, 3 dbls and sophomore second baseman Connor Starkweather (Servite HS), 4 for 5, 3 runs, 5 RBIs, HR.

Three other players contributed with three hits each: freshman right fielder Hayden Wright (Chino Hills HS), 2 RBIs; sophomore shortstop Esteban Ortega (Los Altos HS), 3 for 5, 3 runs, 3 RBIs, triple and sophomore right fielder D.J. Daniels (Bishop Amat HS), 3 for 4, 2 runs, 3 RBIs, dbl.

The Mounties scored 14 runs in the first two innings and eight more in the next two innings for an insurmountable 22-1 lead, a season high.

Not to be outdone on the mound was freshman pitcher Lorenzo Carrillo (Charter Oak HS) with a six-inning, four-hit performance. The right-hander struck out four and raised his record to 3-2 overall.

Collecting two hits apiece were freshman shortstop Erick Morales (La Puente HS), 2 for 2, RBI and freshman left fielder Antonio Muniz (South Hills HS), 2 for 2, 2 runs scored.

Mt. SAC (15-20, 8-12) will conclude its season Friday afternoon with a 2:30 p.m. game at the Urban Youth Academy against El Camino-Compton Center.
