Irvine Valley College comes from behind for 9-6 win over Mt. SAC

(Walnut) By John M. Sherrard –The Mounties baseball team lost a 2-1 lead and eventually the game Tuesday night against visiting Irvine Valley College Tuesday night at Mazmanian Field in a non-conference game.

The loss was the third consecutive for Mt. SAC bringing its record to 2-4 on the season. The Mounties travel to Irvine Valley College this Saturday for a noon game.

Sophomore catcher Kory Brown (Charter Oak HS), sophomore centerfielder Nate Alam (El Dorado) and sophomore first baseman Matt Majher (Corona) all collected two hits each.

Mt. SAC took a 2-0 lead on single runs in the second and third innings. Sophomore left fielder Jimmy Frazier (West Covina) had an RBI ground out, scoring freshman shortstop Michael Smith (Tulsa Memorial, Tulsa, OK) in the second and Majher singled in sophomore designated hitter Spencer Sundahl (East Lake, Chula Vista), who doubled, in the third inning.

After Irvine Valley (2-2) cut the lead in half, 2-1 in the fourth, the Lazers scored four more runs in the sixth inning to take the lead for good, 5-2.

Mt. SAC sophomore starting pitcher Daniel Diaz (Ayala) went five innings, allowing only two hits, a run and struck out seven.

After Irvine Valley added to its lead, 7-2, in the seventh, the Mounties answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to close to 7-4, on a two-run RBI single to right field by Brown, scoring Alam and sophomore second baseman Dallas Reed (Vista Murrieta).

However, the Lazers answered with two more runs in the ninth for the 9-2 lead but the Mounties made one last rally in the bottom half of the inning with two runs on three hits to finish the game, 9-6.

After Frazier (single) and Alam (double) each reached base to open the inning, Reed hit a sacrifice fly to score Frazier and Alam came home on Brown's single.
