(Hermosa Beach, CA) The Mt. SAC Beach Volleyball Team split a pair of matches on Friday, March 30 against El Camino in a 5-0 loss in South Coast Conference action and a nonconference 5-0 win over Pasadena City Club.
In the SCC match, the Mounties No. 1 pair of Shaiann Palos and Malia Carr went three close sets and fell, 21-19, 18-21, 17-15.
The 2's, Sierra Lujan and Jordon Wilson, also brought the El Camino No. 2 pair to three sets with scores of 13-21, 21-17, 16-14.
"I am really proud of how all of our pairs played today, but especially proud of our 1's and 2's for really rising to the occasion against an awesome El Camino team," Mt. SAC Beach Volleyball coach Ali Carey-Oliver said.
"Shaianne and Malia are really showing major improvements at the 1's for us. Their defense helped push them to go three sets with El Camino. Malia was a digging machine and Shaianne had some monster blocks in the match."
"They were incredibly close and exciting matches to watch."
Carey-Oliver was just as proud of the play from her 2's.
"Jordon and Sierra are making huge strides as well. Jordon is able to really see the court well and make great decisions on offense and Sierra's defense has picked up a ton."
The other three El Camino match results are as follows:
No. 3 El Camino defeated Mt. SAC No. 3 (Alysha Tullar/Alyssa Bloomfield), 21-14, 21-12.
No. 4 El Camino defeated Mt. SAC No. 4 (Natalya Fajardo/Lindsey Lane), 21-9, 21-10.
No. 5 El Camino defeated Mt. SAC No. 5 (Kierra Coatney/Brianda Valdez), 21-5, 21-15.
Carey-Oliver invites fans to come out to watch the team take on Fullerton College on Wednesday April 4. The match starts at 2:00 p.m.
The Mounties will then travel to Tavares, Florida this Saturday and Sunday, April 7, 8 to play in the Inaugural American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Small College Beach Championship.
