Mt. SAC Beach VB Team Defeats Desert, 3-2, Falls to Long Beach, 5-0, Rio Hondo, 3-2

Women's Beach Volleyball Team

(Long Beach, CA) The Mt. SAC Women's Beach Volleyball Team played three matches on Friday and came away with a 3-2 win over College of the Desert, lost a close 3-2 match to Rio Hondo and was shutout by Long Beach City College 5-0.

In the close three-set victory over C.O.D., the 1's duo of Malia Carr and Shaiann Palos swept their sets with an identical 21-16, 21-16 victory.

Mt. SAC's No. 2 team of Sierra Lujan and Jordon Wilson lost both sets by two points each, 22-20, 25-23.

The 3's duo of Alyssa Bloomfield and Alysha Tullar dropped the first set 15-21, but came back and won the final two sets 21-17, 15-10 for the win.

No. 5's Kierra Coatney and Brianda Valdez swept their opponents 21-18, 21-13 to give the Mounties their 3-2 win over C.O.D.

The Coatney/Valdez paring has six wins on the season.

In the 3-2 loss to Rio Hondo, No. 2's Lujan/Wilson (14-21, 21-19, 21-19) and No. 5's Coatney/Valdez (21-23, 22-20, 17-15) came away with the wins.

On Friday March 30, the team will play a South Coast Conference match vs. El Camino and a nonconference match against Pasadena City Club. Both matches will take place in Hermosa Beach.

After a nonconference match at Fullerton College on April 4 the Mounties will take their first plane flight across the country as a first-year team to play in the Inaugural American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Small College Beach Championship.

The AVCA tournament will be played at Hickory Point Beach in Tavares, Florida on April 7-8 with 15 teams competing.

They will be divided into two distinct events: NCAA Division II in one and the other will feature Div. III, NAIA and two teams from the CCCAA (Mt. SAC and San Diego).

The Mounties will play three pool-play matches on the first day – Missouri Baptist, Warner and Webber College and will play in a bracket championship play on the second day.
