Women’s Soccer: Silva makes memorable debut in LBCC win over Mt. SAC

Making her season debut, freshman forward Tiana Silva (Millikan HS, pictured) scored just moments before halftime to lift the Long Beach City College women's soccer team to a 1-0 South Coast Conference win over visiting Mt. San Antonio College on Friday.

The win was the Vikings' fourth straight and extended their unbeaten streak to eight games as LBCC improved to 8-1-1 overall and 4-0-0 in conference play.

Silva, who was just cleared to play for Long Beach earlier in the day, entered the game in the 37th minute. Moments later, she would score her first goal since 2010 as a member of the Cerritos College women's soccer team.

In the 45th minute, freshman forward Tonie Bangos (Canyon HS) sent a cross pass from the left side to Silva waiting near the far post. She easily shot the ball in the open net for the eventual game-winning goal.

Freshman Karen Nuno (Bellflower HS) made three saves to post her third shutout of the season.

Mt. SAC (6-2-3, 2-1-1 SCC) got five saves from goalie Lindsey Stocks.

Long Beach returns to action on Tuesday (Oct 15) when they face rival Cerritos in a key South Coast Conference game as both teams are currently tied for first place.
