Long Beach takes advantage of Mt. SAC errors to pull out 2-1 win

Sophomore Ryan Dickison (Pacifica HS) lined a two-out, pinch-hit double to score freshman Justin Davis (Mayfair HS) with the go-ahead run in the seventh and sophomore Edgar Navar (Maywood HS) went the distance on the mound in a 2-1 Long Beach City College win over Mt. San Antonio College on Tuesday.

With the South Coast Conference victory, the Vikings improved to 9-12 overall and 6-4 in conference play. The three-game SCC series continues on Thursday (Mar 27) at 2:30 p.m. back on Mt. SAC and concludes on Saturday (Mar 29) at noon in Long Beach.

Navar (2-1) scattered five hits over nine innings and allowed a run to the Mounties in the first. After the shaky opening frame, Navar went on to retire 11 straight batters until hitting a batter in the fifth.

Long Beach took advantage of a pair of Mt. SAC errors to score both of its runs.

In the second, sophomore Stefan Miladinovich (Wilson HS) singled but was able to advance all the way to third after an error by Mt. SAC right fielder Carlos Martinez. Yates followed with a ground out to short that allowed Miladinovich to tie the score.

And in the seventh, Yates reached base thanks to an error by Mounties' third baseman Boomer Baker. With Davis pinch running, sophomore Yamel Delgado (Downey HS) moved him to second with a sacrifice bunt. Dickison then smacked a run-scoring double off Mt. SAC starter Ethan Etchebarren for the eventual game-winning run.

Etchebarren (2-2) took the loss for Mt. SAC (10-11, 5-5 SCC) despite allowing two unearned runs and five hits over seven innings.

Miladinovich went 2 for 3 to lead the Vikings at the plate.
