BASEBALL: OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION IN THE 9TH

The Hornet baseball team took a trip to Mount San Antonio College Tuesday night and won big 14-4.

The game was a tight one, until Fullerton exploded with nine runs in the ninth inning. Trailing 4-2 heading into the eighth, FC ripped off three runs to take a 5-4 lead. Laine Huffman hit a single allowing Joey Parente to score, and then Shane Carrier hit one to left field scoring Austin O'Banion to tie it up. The Hornets went up for good on a left field single by David Miranda that brought Carrier home.

Up 5-4 in the ninth, the Fullerton College bats went crazy, as they made sure the game was sealed scoring nine runs. Huffman knocked in Parente, O'Banion hit a single that brought in Huffman, and Garrett Baseheart banged out a triple scoring Miranda, Carrier, and O'Banion. Kevin Foley hit one to center allowing Baseheart to cross home plate. Foley then came home on a ground out to short stop by Row and Parente scored on a Huffman single to left field.

Junior Ramirez got the start for FC going 6 strong innings allowing 1 earned run on 3 hits with 4 strikeouts. RP Nick Vega grabbed his first win of the season working inning. RPs Louis Corral and Robert Leffler shut the Mounties down in the 8th and 9th innings with no runs on 3 combined hits.

Fullerton had 16 hits on the night with 8 of them coming from the ninth inning. Mt. SAC had 11 total hits.

FC's Huffman was 4-6 at the plate with 2 runs and 3 RBI. O'Banion was 3-5 scoring 2 runs with 1 RBI. Carrier was 2-5 with 2 runs and 2 RBI. Parente had 2 hits with 3 runs, while Miranda had 2 hits with a run and RBI.

Up Next: Fullerton (10-2) will open Orange Empire Conference-play this Saturday, March 5th against Golden West College. The first pitch goes out at noon.
