M. Water Polo: Cerritos opens conference with win

On the strength of five goals from sophomore Miguel Garcia (Montebello HS), the Cerritos College men's water polo team opened South Coast Conference play with a 13-10 win over Mt. San Antonio on Wednesday. The win by the Falcons (3-3, 1-0) was a balanced effort, as four different players scored multiple goals, while eight registered at least one assist. The team will now host Los Angeles Trade-Tech College at 4:15 on Wednesday in a conference match.

In addition to the five goals, Garcia also contributed two assists and two steals, while he drew three ejections and blocked three shots from the field. Freshman Marlon Moreno (Virgen del Rosario HS, Venezuela) contributed three goals, as well as a pair of assists and steals, with the duo of sophomores TJ Tijerina (Bell Gardens HS) and Randy Baldwin (Buena Park HS, Fullerton College) each posting a pair of goals in the win, while Tijerina added four field blocks.

Freshman goalie Alfred De La Mora (Bell Gardens HS) came up big in the win with 17 saves, while he started the fast break offense with four steals. Sophomore Derek Klotzer (Downey HS) and freshman Cody Anderson (Valencia HS) both recorded a pair of steals.
