Alex Mascarenas returns for his 6th season with the mighty Mountie Women's Softball Program.  In 2019, he served as Interim Head Coach while Ruby Rojas took a one year leave of absence to coach with the Auburn University Softball Program.  During the 2019 CoVID-19 shortened season, Mascarenas led the Mounties to an incredible 18-1 record, one of the best starts in the history of the program.  Under Mascarrenas, the Mounties outscored their opponents 215 to 35.    

Mascarenas began with his coaching career with the Mounties Softball Program in 2016.  Mascarenas is a well known hitting and fielding instructor in the national softball circles.  Under Coach Mascarenas direction as infield/hitting coach, the Mounties compiled a team batting average of over .400 and produced some of the deadliest offensive hitters in the state. Mascarenas was named the 2018 California Junior College Easton/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Assistant Coach of the Year. Mascarenas is the  Mounties hitting and infield coach where he was instrumental in helping guide Mt. SAC to the 2018 & 2019 California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Softball State Championship. His expertise has influenced the Mt. SAC program to top-three rankings in offensive and fielding categories. Under his tutelage, several student-athletes have garnered NFCA All-America honors, player/pitcher of the year recognition and all-state honors, while many have gone on to top NCAA Division I, Division  II, and NAIA universities. 

Mascarenas played football at UCLA for three seasons, before retiring due to injury. After graduating from UCLA, Mascarenas attended Santa Ana College where he competed in baseball (two years) as an infielder. Mascarenas received his Bachelors Degree in History from UCLA and his Masters Degree in Kinesiology from Cal Lutheran University.  His sister Toni was a 3-time softball All-American (3rd base) at the University at Arizona, while his niece Alyssa Palomino-Cardoza is currently playing for the Wildcats.
