
(Walnut, CA) Kelly Ford steps down as Mt. SAC Women's Softball Head Coach in order to become only the third Women's Softball Head Coach at Cal State Fullerton. Since her arrival at Mt. SAC in 2002 (11 years ago), Ford has transformed the program into one of the most powerful and dominant community college softball programs in the state, capturing 4 California Community College State Championships (03, 05, 07, 09), eight Regional Championship titles (03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 09, 10, 11) and seven South Coast Conference (SCC) Championships (03-08, 11). Ford has personally been named SCC Softball Coach of the Year 5 times (03, 05, 07, 08, 11) and has twice been named SCC All-Sports Coach of the Year (03, 07). She leaves Mt. SAC with a record of 455-102-1 and an amazing winning percentage of .816.
"As a head coach, professor and assistant athletic director, we appreciate everything Coach Ford has done for us at Mt. SAC," replies Athletic Director, Joe Jennum. "She has created a tremendous softball legacy here at Mt. SAC. Cal State Fullerton is very fortunate to hire a person of her caliber to lead their outstanding program and I know she will have continued success leading the Titans."
Prior to arriving at Mt. SAC, the former star outfielder for the University of Oklahoma spent 9 years coaching at the NCAA Division 1 level with stops at Cal State Northridge (1992, 1994-1999), University of Oklahoma (1993) and at Cal State Fullerton (2000-2001). Ever team she has been associated with has been ranked in the NCAA Division 1 Top 20 Polls.
"I would like to thank the administration, my colleagues, my student/athletes and coaches that have been with me on the this amazing journey at Mt. SAC," Coach Ford said. "During my 11 years here at Mt. SAC, I have grown so much professionally and personally. I thank Mt. SAC for giving me that opportunity and the ability to accomplish so much. Mt. SAC is truly a magical place! I know the team will be in good hands under the direction of Coach Rojas."
Taking over the Mountie Program as the Interim Head Coach, will be Assistant Coach, Rubilena Rojas, who is no stranger to the head coaching position at the community college level. Prior to arriving at Mt. SAC 3 years ago, Rojas served as the Head Softball Coach at Orange Coast College for 5 seasons. The former University of Virginia Superstar represented her native, Venezuela at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and has also played professionally on the Professional Fastpitch Extreme Tour.
