(Costa Mesa, CA) The Mounties held on to win the Patriotic Bowl over Golden West College, 29-27 Saturday night. Mounties Freshman Quarterback, Anfernee Bruton was named Most Valuable Player along with Sophomore Linebacker, Suliasi Tamaivena as Player of the Game.

The Mounties opened up the scoring right from the start on the defensive side of the ball with a sack in the end zone by Defensive Tackle, Sailosi Latu which would be the difference maker. On the ensuing kickoff the Mounties quarterback, Anfernee Bruton (17-25 189 yards 2 TD's), would drive the ball down the field to set up a 28 yard field goal by Brandon Gracia, to make the score 5-0.

The Mounties would see the Rustlers score to start the 2nd quarter on a 10 yard pass from Adam Vance to Jordan Veasy, making it a 5-7 game. This would be the last time the Mounties would trail as Bruton would drive them down the field to set up another Gracia field goal, this one of 25 yards.

From that point in the second quarter, both teams would trade scoring drives. What proved costly on each of those drives were the copious amount of penalties. Neither team could catch a break from the officiating crew as the Mounties committed 21 penalties for 191 yards. The Rustlers did not fare much better committing 17 penalties for 111 yards.

The Mounties Defense really came up big when they needed it, attributing to 3 sacks for minus 22 yards, 2 interceptions (1 for a 58 yard touchdown by Derek Norman), 1 fumble recovery and holding the Rustlers to -41 yards on the ground. Suliasi Tamaivena led the team in tackles with 10 (2 sacks, 3 quarterback hurries), while his brother Sitiveni Tamaivena, had 1 sack, 4 tackles for losses of 38 yards, a pass breakup and a forced fumble. David Rivers and Derek Norman both had drive stopping interceptions.

When the game was over the Mounties would continue the streak of Head Coach Bob Jastrab, and his 10 consecutive bowl game victories!
