Mt. SAC Leads 2015-16 NATYCAA Cup Championship Standings

(Walnut, CA) After a strong 2015 fall sport season, Mt. SAC Athletics leads the National Association of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) Cup Standings for the 2015-2016 season, with 101.5 points.  This fall, the Mounties were led by the Men’s Cross Country Team who scored 19 points by placing second at the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Men’s Cross Country State Championships.  Men’s Soccer (17.5 points), Wrestling (16.5 points) and Women’s Cross Country (16.0 points), all scored double digit points for Mt. SAC by reaching the state championships in their respective sport.    

Mt. SAC currently has a 14.5 point lead over conference rival Cerritos College (87 points) and an 18 point lead over Northern California Athletic Powerhouse, Fresno City College (83.5 points).

The final NATYCAA Point Standings and championship will be announced at the end of the 2015-2016 season in June.  The top 5 men’s and top 5 women’s teams from each California Community College institution will score points toward their college’s overall total which will determine this year’s champion.  Since the inception of the NATYCAA Cup in 2003, Mt. SAC has captured a record five championships, including the past three in a row.  The Mounties have also finished in second place five times and have finished in fourth and in sixth place once.
