Men's Soccer Head Coach Juan Sanchez Featured In KCET Article

(Los Angeles, CA)  Head Men's Soccer Coach Juan Sanchez is featured in a KCET.org article written by Mt. SAC Alumni Romeo Guzman.  The article, "Migrant Dreams and Soccer Journey's," is part of KCET's and South El Monte Arts Posse's, "East of East" series.  The series features original essays about people, things, and places in South El Monte and El Monte.

Tracing the life of Coach Sanchez from his early upbringings in Guadalajara Mexico, to his current position of professor and head men's soccer coach at Mt. SAC, "Migrant Dreams and Soccer Journey's" chronicles his journey through soccer and how it has helped mold him into one of the greatest soccer coaches in community college history.

Entering his 14th year at Mt. Antonio College, Sanchez (overall coaching record 250 wins, 41 losses, 37 ties; .762 winning %), the respected and humble Head Coach of the Mounties, has turned the Men's Soccer Program into one of the premier community college soccer programs in the nation.  The Mounties have advanced to the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championships 10 times, played in nine consecutive state title matches and hold the CCCAA Men's Soccer State Championship consecutive win streak at four.         

Under his direction, the Mounties have captured:

  • Two National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Adidas National Championships (Division 3, Community College)
  • Four CCCAA State Championships
  • Nine South Coast Conference (SCC) Championships

Along the way, Sanchez has earned a number of personal accolades including:

  • Eight SCC Men's Soccer Coach of the Year Honors
  • Two SCC All-Sports Coach of the Year Honors
  • Four NSCAA Regional Coach of the Year Honors
  • NSCAA National Community College Coach of the Year (2012)
