By John M. Sherrard

(Huntington Beach, CA) For the first time this season the Mt. SAC Women's Cross Country team comes away with the championship at the Golden West Invitational at Central Park in Huntington Beach.

And they did it with flair, coming home with four of the top eleven runners.

Mt. SAC just out-pointed Riverside City College by one point, 45-46, for the title in the 5K run.

"It was an amazing day," Mt. SAC coach Doug Todd said. "Many ladies stepped up to help secure the win."

Mt. SAC sophomore runner Teresa Castillo was the top placer with a third place (20:04.7).

"It's a confidence booster to win," said Castillo to Runnerspace.com after the race. "After we came in third last week (So Cal Preview Meet) we wanted to motivate ourselves to become a little bit better this week."

Castillo was followed by sophomore Maria Castello, 5th (20:26.6); sophomore Hannah Batchelor, 9th (20:45.4); freshman Olivia Valderama, 11th (20:50.1); freshman Alyssa Jaurique, 17th (21:10.9) and sophomore Laura Diaz, 19th (21:22.0).

The team will next travel to Oregon this Saturday, September 30th and compete in the Willamette Invitational at Bush's Pasture Park in Salem, Oregon.
