Mounties Win, Lose on Second Day of Ventura Tourney; Big Conference Game at Cerritos on Wednesday

(VENTURA) Mt. SAC lost its first game on Saturday, 20-4, to Fullerton but rebounded with a 7-2 victory against Cypress to conclude the two-day Ventura Tournament with a 2-2 record.

The Mountie women now are preparing for a first-place clash in the South Coast Conference between host Cerritos College (12-5, 5-0) this Wednesday. Game time is 3:00.

In the loss to Fullerton, the Mountie offense was thwarted with only four goals, two of which were scored by sophomore attacker Hannah Krolik (Ontario HS).

Freshman attackers Janeane Chagolla (Rowland HS) and Sarah Scotvold (La Serna HS) each scored the other two goals.

In the afternoon game, the offense came back for the Mounties with the 7-2 win over Cypress.  

Sophomore attacker Beth Keane (Corona HS) and freshman 2-meter player Kayla De Herrera (Bonita HS) had two goals each to lead the Mounties.

Defensively, Keane, freshman defender Alexis Aguirre (Rowland HS) and freshman attacker Ridlee Dunlap (Esperanza HS) contributed with four steals apiece. Freshman goalie Shelby Garcia (San Dimas HS) saved four shots for the win.

After Cypress College took a 1-0 lead, the Mounties scored two consecutive goals by Krolik and De Herrera for the 2-1 lead and never trailed the rest of the way.

The Mounties built up a 4-2 halftime edge on goals by freshman attacker Clare Rowland (St. Lucy's HS) and Keane.

The Mountie defense and goalie Garcia shutout Cypress in the second half for the victory.
