(Walnut, CA) For the first time since November of the 2015 season the Mt. SAC Women's Volleyball team has lost a South Coast Conference North match, falling to Pasadena City College, 3-1.

The Lancers defeated the Mounties 20-25, 27-25, 25-22. 25-16. With the loss Mt. SAC is 8-11 overall and 2-1 in conference.

After winning the opening set the Mounties lost the final three to send them to their first conference loss since November 10, 2015 to El Camino.

"Pasadena played aggressively and came out on top (Wednesday)," Mt. SAC Women's Volleyball coach Ali Carey-Oliver said.

Mt. SAC was led by sophomore middle blocker Jordon Wilson with a match-high 17 kills and three service aces. Freshman middle blocker Shalanne Palos and freshman outside hitter Sierra Lujan (7 digs, 2 aces) had eight and seven kills respectively for the Mounties.

As a team the Mounties had 46 kills to the Lancers' 40.

Mt. SAC freshman setter Brianda Valdez led the team with 21 assists and had 11 digs, while freshman defensive specialist Malia Carr contributed with 10 digs and three aces and freshman outside hitter Saipeti Fuiava had seven digs and two aces.

In the opening set with the score tied 11-11, Wilson gave the Mounties the lead 12-11 with a kill and they never trailed the rest of the way as PCC hit the ball out of bounds for the winning Mt. SAC point 25-20.

In set two, which saw a match-high 14 ties, Lujan served and helped the Mounties to an early 14-12 lead. The Mounties led 24-23 and following a PCC time out the Lancers scored four of the next five points and the Mounties hit the ball out for the Lancers 27-25 victory.

In the third set Mt. SAC led early but couldn't shake the Lancers intensity and after the two teams were tied 22-22 late, they reeled off three consecutive points to win going away, 25-22.

In the fourth set the Lancers built an early 11-6 lead and Mt. SAC couldn't get any closer for the clinching game as PCC won by nine points, 25-16.

Mt. SAC will continue conference action next Wednesday October 18 with a match against Rio Hondo at the Mountie Gym on "Dig Pink" night for the fight against cancer.
