Track and Field Men “Out "DUEL" Cerritos College, 107-46

(Norwalk, CA) In the only dual meet of the Men's and Women's Track and Field season this year, the Mounties came away with a split, last Friday at Cerritos College.

Sophomore long distance runner Cody Salter and freshman hurdler Jasher Foster came away with two wins each to lead the Mt. SAC Men's Track and Field team to a 107-46 dual victory over the Falcons, while the women were edged, 82-71.

Sophomore distance runner Demi Marine and freshman speedster Rahmah Baaree both won two events for the women.

The men came away with first-place finishes in 13 of the 18 events, including a one-two-three sweep in 400 meter Dash, 3,000 meter Run and Pole Vault.

The women won nine of the 18 events, including a 1-2-3 sweep in the 60 and 400 meter dashes.

Salter led a swarm of Mounties in both the distance runs as they took the first seven of eight positions in the 1,500 and swept the first 20 spots in the 3,000 meter race.

Salter finished .08 ahead of the Cerritos runner with a time of 4:08.71 in the 1,500 and just over four seconds ahead in the 3,000 with a time of 8:56.44.

Foster swept both hurdles events with a 14.61 time in the 110 and a 56.69 in the 400.

Other first-place men's finishers in the running events were: Freshman Tyrin Wells, 60 meters (6.85); Sophomore Spencer Danner, 200 meters (22.33); Sophomore Michael Graves, 400 meters (51.57); 4 x 100 Meter Relay (41.73) and the 4 x 400 Relay (3:21.00).

In the eight field events, the Mounties came away with four first-place finishes, which included a sweep in the Pole Vault. The first five pole vaulters for Mt. SAC all cleared 4.35 meters: Freshman Kyle Beck, Pole Vault (4.95m); Freshman Devon Vinson, Triple Jump (14.32m); Freshman David Potts, Discus Throw (44.85m); Freshman Ryan Castillo, Hammer Throw (43.80m).

For the women, Baaree swept the 60 and 200 meter dashes with times of 7.44 and 25.50 respectively, while Marine easily swept the two distance races with times of 4:52.96 (1,500m) and 10:34.04 (3,000m). She beat the second-place runner by six seconds in the 1,500m and 33 seconds in the 3,000m race.

Other first-place winners in the running events were: Freshman Alyssa Curry, 400 meters (1:03.32); Freshman Teuila Gardner, 800 meters (2:21.72); 4 x 100 Meter Relay (48.10); 4 x 400 Meter Relay (3:56.71).

Mt. SAC freshman Brianna Aguirre was the lone women's field event winner with a vault of 2.95m in the Pole Vault.

Freshman Nadya Wisham picked up team points in two events for the Mounties – Triple Jump (2nd), 3 points and the Long Jump (3rd), 1 point, while freshman Daisy Tupuola participated in three events (Shot Put, Discus and Hammer Throw), taking second in the Shot Put.

Both the men and women teams will next compete at the Cerritos Open on Feb. 23-24, at Cerritos College.
