Mt. SAC Women’s Soccer Features the Barbosa Sisters, Aurora, Karina and Natasia in 6-0 Win over Compton

(Walnut, CA) For the first time in Mt. SAC Women's Soccer history, three sisters were on the field at the same, with two of the three scoring to help the Mounties to a 6-0 South Coast Conference crossover shutout win over Compton on Tuesday October 24.

Sophomores Aurora Barbosa and Karina Barbosa and younger sister, freshman center back Natasia Barbosa, all were on the field at the same time in the win over Compton.

"It was a thrill to see all three sisters get to play together in Natasia's first collegiate game," Mt. SAC Women's Soccer coach Melinda Bowen said. Natasia suffered a season-ending knee injury last year in preseason.

"Quite honestly it didn't look like she would ever play again," Bowen added. "She worked so hard and never gave up. (Natasia) was the last woman to make the team (this season) and she played the game (Tuesday) purely due to her persistence, hard work and support of her sisters."

The Mounties started quick with a goal in the 1st minute by freshman forward Jaqueline Aleman (assist Julia Harris), followed by an unassisted goal from freshman center back Hailey Wolf in the 29th for the 2-0 lead.

A third goal came just before halftime in the 42nd minute as sophomore outside back Jazmine Angulo scored on a goal assisted by sophomore center back Sydney Duran.

With a 4-0 lead, Aurora, a center midfielder, and Karina, a center back, scored for the Mounties in the second half. Aurora's goal, assisted by freshman center back Sydney Schneider, came in the 61st minute, followed by an unassisted goal by Karina in the 89th minute.

The six goals were the biggest scoring output of the season for the Mounties and the fifth shutout.

Sophomore goal keeper Riley Barbata, who picked up her second solo shutout, faced only one shot and made the save for the Mounties.

Mt. SAC (6-7-3, 3-2-2), which tied ELAC 0-0 in a South Coast Conference North game on Friday, continues conference action on Tuesday hosting L.A. Harbor.
