(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC Women's Soccer team, for the fourth time in the last five games, recorded a shutout Friday afternoon against Pasadena City College 1-0, in South Coast Conference North game.

Just before the end of the first half Mt. SAC freshman forward Kin Spencer took a long pass from sophomore outside back Jazmine Angulo just inside the box and from the right side knocked in the shot to the left corner in the 43rd minute.

The play started when freshman forward Julia Harris passed up to sophomore center mid Evette Luna, who found Angulo.

"She (Angulo) crossed it up in the air and I took a touch and hit it in," Spencer said "I watched the (PCC) defenders body language and I knew I couldn't go to my right so I went to my left."

The 1-0 lead stood up for the remainder of the game as both teams had numerous opportunities.

"Kin played with a lot of finesse and placed that ball perfectly and kept her eye on the goal," Mt. SAC Women's Soccer coach Melinda Bowen said. "Kin is a very talented player.

"And Jazzy (assist on the goal) gives us 110% and is really the stability on this team."

Mt. SAC, which improved to 5-4-1 overall and 2-1 in conference, took 19 shots in the game, 12 of which were on goal.

"Our intensity was there (against PCC) but next game we just have to finish," said the diminutive Spencer, who has been described as 'small but mighty'. "One goal is just not enough and it might cost us (later)."

Once again sophomore Cassidy Mount was in goal and turned aside two shots on goal. PCC took five shots in the game.

"It is really good soccer lately and we have a really strong defense with Cassidy leading the team in the back and she's holding us together," Bowen said.

In the 46th minute, after a corner kick by PCC, three Mounties – sophomores Sydney Duran (center back), Vanessa Plascencia (center mid) and Angulo all defended on the play to help knock the ball away.

The best chance the Lancers had to score came in the 68th minute, but Mount made a nice stop of a direct shot in close.

"It's the defense and I'm there when they need me," Mount said. "We communicate and work together well. It's definitely not just one person but all of us working together as a unit."

"We're definitely catching fire at a good time and I knew we could do it since we played some tough teams at the beginning of preseason."

The Mounties continue conference play next Tuesday as they travel to Chaffey for a 4:30 pm game.
